Okay, this isn't a DIY/MacGyver-esque project post..
but it's something I like to do instead of just throwing things away - I donate.

BOOKS
Sometimes when I have a book that I no longer want/need (like textbooks) I try to sell it online. But sometimes the asking price for certain books are not worth the shipping and handling costs, so I donate them to places like Books for Africa. I donated to this organization once. I just sent some textbooks that I no longer needed to the provided address, and they sent back a Thank You Card. It seems legit, I haven't seen any bad reports about the company, so I think it's all good. Also, if you don't want to spent shipping costs, there's usually local schools or libraries that would take your unwanted books.

HAIR
Every now and then when my hair gets annoyingly long I cut it and donate it to be made into wigs for cancer patients. There's usually a length minimum in order to make the wigs depending on the organization. I'll list the ones I've used in the past. Also, make sure you follow each organizations' instructions of the donation process, so the hair may be used properly.
I donated to Locks of Love about three times, it was cool until I heard negative things about the organization. Supposed scams like not all donated hair becomes wigs for patients, but are sold for money. This is true actually, they state on their site that you can still donate hair less than 10" (their acceptable minimum wig length), which would be sold and the proceeds go to the making of the wigs. "Shorter hair will be separated from the ponytails and sold to offset the manufacturing costs. Although the shorter hair cannot be used in the hairpieces, it still greatly helps to reduce costs." Which I realized is fine, but at the time it seemed sketchy, so I gave my next donation to somewhere else.. juuuust in case.

I originally wanted to donate my hair to Matter of Trust to help clean that Gulf Oil Spill.. but they stopped collecting donations by the time I cut my hair. Apparently they already received MANY donations that they had to stop accepting them.

I made my latest donation to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. They seem legit too, what's cool is the minimum length is only 8". So if you're impatient but really want your hair to be a wig for cancer kids, you should donate here. But if your hair still doesn't meet the required lengths and you want to cut your hair already/already cut your hair, just donate to Locks of Love.

BRAS
Kinda awkward, yeaa.. but there's a surprising need for them. So if you or anyone you know has some unwanted bras, they can be donated here.. where they'll be repaired and redistributed globally. Again, it's better than just throwing them away, the landfills are filled enough as they are. I'm just saying..

That's all the donation organizations I can think of for now.. you can also donate time. Maybe I'll make another post on that next time.
